Once upon a time, amid the rolling green hills of Vermont, two freshmen met at Middlebury College. Over the years, the girls shared similar interests and marked many milestones together. They dreamed of careers in fashion and business, graduated with honors, and traveled abroad. They were bridesmaids in each other’s weddings. Friends for years—and now business partners!
After bidding their college days farewell, Jen Fritz and Whitney O’Brien went their separate ways to pursue fame and fortune in the business of fashion.
Jen went into retail. She spent several years in merchandising, at first for Talbots in Massachusetts, next as the Knits and Sweaters buyer for J.Crew’s Online and Catalog division in New York City. Then came marriage. She and her high school sweetheart tied the knot. While her new hubby earned his MBA at Kellogg, Jen honed her keen sense of style and sales savvy while working in an upscale boutique in Chicago.
Meanwhile, back in Massachusets, Whitney earned an MBA from Babson, ranked #1 in entrepreneurship by U.S. News and World Report magazine. In addition to her first year studies, Whitney decided to launch her own cashmere label, Two Bees Cashmere. When the collection nearly sold out in just over a month, Whitney knew she was on to something big. Sales continued to grow and the business quickly established itself within the marketplace as a premiere knitwear line for women. In the midst of it all, ever-the-multi-tasker, Whitney found time to fall in love and marry.
As is the case in every fairytale, the stars were about to align. For years, Whitney’s customers had been requesting a line of baby cashmere. In 2007, Whitney and Jen decided that the time was right to reunite for a new chapter in their storybook friendship and Bambeeno was born.
